TROY, Alabama – Troy freshman Leanna Johnson was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association South Region Second Team on Thursday.
Â
Johnson's accolade marks the first time that a Trojan has been named to an NFCA All-Region team since seniors Kate Benton and Hannah Day were named to the NFCA South Region Second and Third Team in 2016.
Â
The Brantley, Alabama native was named to the NFCA South Second Team All-Region following an outstanding first year in the circle recording a team-best 2.19 ERA. Johnson ended the season with 231 strikeouts, 25 victories and 7 shutouts ranking her in Troy's top ten single season records in all three categories.
Â
"I am really proud of everything Leanna has accomplished this year as only a freshman," head coach Beth Mullins said. "She has a bright future, and I can't wait to see all things she and this program accomplish in the future."
Â
The freshman earned Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week honors on April 2nd after picking up three wins including shutouts over North Alabama and UT Arlington and giving up just one run over 22 innings of work the week prior.
Â
Johnson also earned Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and was tabbed First Team All-Sun Belt this season.
