TROY, Ala. – Troy scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, but UAB responded with a two-out, solo shot from Jim Jeffries in the tenth to take the midweek contest, 7-6, at Riddle-Pace Field Tuesday.

Jeffries had just one hit all season before the at-bat but stepped to the plate and launched a no-doubter to right center to give the Blazers (15-19) the extra-inning lead. Sylvester Toe (1-0) – who had pitched just 2.2 innings this year – earned the win after striking out five batters in the final 1.2 innings of the game.

Down 6-3 headed to the bottom of the ninth, the Trojans (16-16) were able to get a couple of runners on base via walks before Drew Frederic singled in one run and Dalton Sinquefield doubled in two more – Frederic was one of three Troy players to record multiple hits in the contest, joining Chase Smartt and Logan Cerny in the category.

Sinquefield advanced to third on a wild relay throw on his two-RBI double to put the winning run just 90 feet away. After walking Sadler Goodwin, Toe was able to strike out the next two batters to end the threat.

UAB struck for two in the first inning and held the lead until the fourth, when Troy strung together three runs on three hits to take its first lead of the game – two of the three coming on a Caleb Bartolero double. The Blazers then started to pull away with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Trojans reliever Rush Hixon (2-3) was saddled with the loss after allowing just one hit – the Jeffries homer – but fanned two in two innings of work.

Troy has now suffered six last at-bat losses through just 32 games this season – three at home and three on the road.

Notable
• With the loss, Troy fell to UAB in both of the season's meetings for the first time since the 2013 season. The Trojans swept the Blazers with 3-2 and 4-1 victories last season.

• Rigsby Mosley drew two walks and ripped a single to extend his team-best and career-long reached base streak to 23 straight games.
