TROY, Ala. – With two on and nobody out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Logan Cerny laid down a sacrifice bunt that was thrown away past third base to bring home the winning run in Dalton Sinquefield and give Troy an 8-7 victory over Alabama State in non-conference action at Riddle-Pace Field Wednesday.

Sinquefield walked to lead off the frame, then got to second on Sadler Goodwin's third hit of the night – a single into right field. Cerny then dropped the bunt down and the ASU reliever threw it past the third baseman and Sinquefield scored to send the Troy (17-16) fans home happy.

The Trojans and Hornets (16-15) traded big innings throughout the game, Troy striking first with three in the first inning – capitalized by a two-run homer from Cerny, who finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI and two sacrifice bunts.

Goodwin picked up his first of three RBI in the game with a two-out double in that opening frame. The senior led the club with a 3-for-4 performance that included a couple of doubles along with two runs scored.

Bama State then scored seven unanswered with two in the second, one in the sixth and four in the top of the seventh. However, Troy responded with a big four-run bottom of the seventh to knot things right back up and set up the dramatic finish.

Rigsby Mosley led off the seventh with his first home run of his sophomore campaign – a no-doubt shot over the right field wall. Goodwin then drove in two more on a double to draw within one, and Chase Smartt tied the game up with a line drive, sacrifice fly to left field.

On the mound, Lance Johnson (2-1) earned the win after fanning two in two innings of scoreless work. Alabama State's Terrell McCall (0-1) wore his first loss of the campaign, allowing one run – none earned – in two frames of relief.

"We fought through the top of the seventh and then produced some of the biggest at-bats that we've had all year in the bottom of that inning. We had good execution in the ninth, it set up nicely and Logan (Cerny) got the bunt down to win it. I'm proud of the unselfishness of Cerny to put the bunt down twice after hitting the early homer; but he did his job for us. I'm proud of the bounce back after the disappointing loss last night. All Sun Belt games are tough on the road, so I'm looking forward to the challenge this weekend."

Just one night after suffering its sixth last at-bat loss of the season, Troy responded with its third last at-bat win of the campaign. The win marked the programs 20^th last at-bat win in the Mark Smartt era.

• After hitting five homers in his Freshman All-American campaign last year, Rigsby Mosley launched his first home run of his sophomore year to spark the four-run seventh. Mosley had not hit a round-tripper since his grand slam against UT Arlington on April 27, 2018 – a span of 48 games.

• With the win, Troy extended its winning streak over the Hornets to seven straight contests, dating back to the 2015 season.

• Freshman Logan Cerny moved into a tie for the team-lead with his fifth homer of the season Wednesday – now sitting with Sadler Goodwin and Drew Frederic at the top of the category.
