TROY, Alabama – Kaylee Hussey blasted a walk-off three-run home run to power Troy past Alabama State, 5-2, Tuesday night at the Troy Softball Complex.
With the game tied heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Hussey sent her fifth long ball of the season sailing over the left field wall to give Troy (26-13) the win over Alabama State (16-14).
Troy got on the board first scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back singles by Madeline Porter and Katie Webb and a sacrifice fly by Stephanie Snyder.
Annie Willis held the Hornets scoreless through the first four innings of play sitting down five batters and scattering five hits, but a home run down the left field line by Hailey Walker cut Troy's lead in half in the top of the fifth.
Singles by Alexis Snydor and Charlene Castro plated a run and tied the game up in the top of the sixth to set up Hussey for the walk-off home run.
Leanna Johnson (17-5) earned the win for the Trojans after entering in the top of the seventh inning. Johnson forced a popup and fanned two batters to send Troy back to the plate unscathed in the bottom of the seventh.
Vanessa Bradford (6-6) suffered the loss for the Hornets after allowing five runs off of eight hits and four walks.
Troy is back in action this weekend with a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against Georgia State. Game one of the series is set for Friday at 6 p.m. at the Troy Softball Complex.
