Six Trojans Named to All-Sun Belt Conference Tennis Teams

TROY, Alabama – Six from Troy men's and women's tennis were named All-Sun Belt Conference, the league announced on Wednesday.

From the men's side, Pelayo Antuna was tabbed first team singles, while Oskar Michalek earned second team singles honors. For the women, the doubles tandem of Pei Ju Hsieh and Chunxi Guo were named to the first team, while Matea Mihaljevic and Tingting Pei took home second team honors.

Antuña posted a 20-3 overall record, including a 3-1 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. The sophomore global business major from Gijón, Spain, was 11-2 at first singles and ended the regular season on a five-match winning streak.

A Swinoujscie, Poland native, Michalek finished the regular season 15-7 with a 13-3 mark at second singles. Michalek won 11 straight matches between Feb. 10 and March 24. The junior social science major claimed three of his first five Sun Belt matches of the season.

Hsieh and Guo were a force in doubles play for the Trojans this season posting a 14-4 overall record – all in dual play – and a perfect 8-0 mark at second doubles. The duo won 12 of their first 13 dual matches and were 8-0 on their home court. Hsieh, a sophomore from Changhua, China, is a sport management major, while Guo, a Chengdu, China, native, is majoring in exercise science with a concentration in pre-health professions.

Mihaljevic and Pei paired to go 11-7 on the season and 9-6 in dual play. The tandem posted a 5-2 mark at second doubles, including going 4-2 in Sun Belt play and won their last three matches of the regular season. Mihaljevic, a product of Osijek, Croatia, and Pei, from Kunming, China, are both sport management majors.

Men's and women's tennis both enter the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Peachtree City, Georgia, this week as the No. 7 seed and both face South Alabama in the first round. The women take on the Jaguars at 9 a.m. Thursday, while the men face South Alabama at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
