Troy Downs GSU 10-6; Twin Bill Set for Saturday

Atlanta, Ga. – Senior Chase Smartt and sophomore Rigsby Mosley combined for six RBI in Troy's 10-6 win over Georgia State in Sun Belt Conference baseball action on Friday night at the GSU Baseball Complex.

The Trojans (18-16, 6-7 Sun Belt) have won five of their last seven Sun Belt games while the Panthers (10-24, 2-11 Sun Belt) dropped their 10th consecutive conference game.Â

Smartt led the way for the Trojans at the plate, reaching base in all five appearance as the senior went 3-for-3 with a career-high four RBI, a season-high two walks and two runs scored.Â

Mosley turned in an impressive outing as well, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, two RBI and two runs scored. Mosley hit his home runs in back-to-back at bats, marking the first Trojan to accomplish that feat since Brandon Lockridge (May 7-10, 2017 vs. App State/Alabama State).Â

On the mound, junior Cory Gill earned the win to improve to 4-1 on the season. Gill tossed 6.2 innings (0.1 away from tying his career high) with a season-high tying seven strikeouts, two earned runs and one walk. Junior Lance Johnson closed the game out to earn his first save of the season.Â

Smartt drove home Troy's first two runs in the fourth with his first two-RBI single of the night to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead. Mosley launched his second home run of the season in the fifth inning, then notched his third home run of the season in the seventh.Â

Junior Drew Frederic followed behind Mosley with a homer of himself in the seventh to give the Trojans a 5-2 lead. In the ninth inning, Smartt hit his second two-RBI single and sophomore Manning Early also hit a two-RBI single to plate the final two Troy runs.Â
