TROY, Ala. – Troy baseball will dive right back into its Sun Belt Conference slate this weekend, as it heads to Atlanta for a three-game series against Georgia State at the GSU Baseball Complex; first pitch Friday is set for 5 p.m. (CDT), Saturday at 1 p.m. (CDT) and Sunday at 12 p.m. (CDT).
Â
The Trojans (17-16, 5-7) are coming off a pair of dramatic midweek contests, losing Tuesday in 10 innings before bouncing back to walk-off Alabama State Wednesday night. Sadler Goodwin and Logan Cerny combined for five hits and six RBI against the Hornets – Cerny laid down a sacrifice bunt that was thrown away to win it in the ninth.
Â
Goodwin, a senior from Cordova, Tenn., has recorded nine hits and seven RBI in the past five games on his own, including four doubles in that timespan. Meanwhile, Dalton Sinquefield has paced the squad and the conference through the first 12 league games – posting a .490 batting average with 24 hits.
Â
On the mound, head coach Mark Smartt will send a couple of familiar faces out for the starts in games one and two. Redshirt junior righty Cory Gill will get the call in the opener, and right-handed sophomore Levi Thomas will start game two – the Trojans have not announced a probable for the finale.
Â
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Georgia State (10-23, 2-10) have struggled to get anything going so far in 2019 – winning just two of its first 12 Sun Belt games. After winning the series at Appalachian State on March 17, the Panthers have lost nine consecutive leagues games (UTA, Little Rock, and ULM). However, they were able to pick up a win over Mercer in midweek action Wednesday night in Atlanta.
