TROY, Ala. – Troy outfielder Joey Denison and shortstop Matt Sanders have been named to the All-America Third Team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, the organization announced Wednesday.
Â
Denison, the Sun Belt Player of the Year and already a Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game All-American, led the conference in batting average, doubles, RBI while setting the school's single-season RBI record with 81 on the year. His RBI total ranked second nationally, and his 97 hits were tenth-most in the country.
Â
Sanders picked up his first All-American honors with the announcement following an outstanding senior campaign to cap a stellar career at Troy. The Madison, Ala., native is the school's record-holder in career and single-season runs scored, career at-bats and single-season games played. He was the nation's top run-scorer with 90 in 2018 and recorded the eighth-most hits in the country with 99.
The pair of seniors were the only two Sun Belt student-athletes chosen by the NCBWA on the All-American lists. With three (Denison, Sanders and Rigsby Mosley), the 2018 Trojans have tied the 1981, 1985, 1986 and 2011 teams for the most All-American selections in school history.
