Troy Set to Host Samford, Time Altered

TROY, Alabama – After finishing up a 17-game road stretch this past weekend, the Trojans will host the Samford Bulldogs in a midweek tilt before kicking off conference play this weekend. Due to the threat of cold temperatures, first pitch has been moved to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Troy Softball Complex.
The Trojans (16-6) are fresh off of a successful weekend down in Clearwater, Florida where Troy finished the USF Invitational 4-1 with its only loss coming to No. 13 South Carolina.
Katie Webb led the Trojans offensively going 10-for-17 with three doubles and six RBIs on the weekend. Brooke Echols blasted two home runs to give her three long balls this season while Kaylee Hussey also sent her first home run of the season over the wall.
Leanna Johnson (10-2) heads into the week ranked second nationally in strikeouts with 98 after adding 19 more this past weekend. Johnson also added two more wins to her resume including a shutout against Furman.
Scouting the Bulldogs
Samford (6-15) comes into the game after dropping to Evansville and Western Kentucky on Saturday. Madison Couch leads the offensive effort batting a .317 with 13 RBIs. Couch has hit four doubles, a triple, and four home runs already this season.
Lacey Spear (4-3) and McKenna Gillespie (2-1) have spent the majority of the time in the circle fort the Bulldogs. Spear sits at a 5.05 ERA in 26.1 innings of work while Gillespie has a 4.26 ERA in 24.2 innings of work. The two have combined for 28 strikeouts.
