GREENVILLE, S.C. – Connor Futrell shot 4-over to lead Troy in Monday's opening two rounds of the ECU Invitational at the Brook Valley Country Club. The Trojans are in ninth place following Monday's action that was called due to darkness with four teams still on the course.
Scores were high across the board due to cold and windy conditions on the course. The average card turned in over the first two rounds was a 76.96 on the par-72, 6,755-yard track.
Futrell, who is tied for 15th, carded four birdies on the day with two in each round. The Trojan sophomore had an uneventful first trip through the course with two birdies and two bogeys; he played the back nine at a 1-under 35. He made the turn at 1-under in the afternoon session but ended with four straight bogeys and settled at 4-over.
Dean Martin sits tied for 35th place and four shots back of Futrell at 6-over following rounds of 78 and 74 on the day. Martin's six birdies on Monday are tied for the fifth most in the field as he carded three in each of his rounds.
Will McFadden was the 11th best in the field playing the par 3s to a score of 1-over on the day. He finished the day tied for 39th place at 9-over following rounds of 76 and 77 with a total of three birdies.
Jake Tiffin finished with the 10th most birdies in the field but struggled with big numbers throughout both rounds as he sits in 68th place at 24-over par, while Eli Charron is a shot back in 69th place at 25-over.
No. 42 Campbell and Jacksonville sit at the top of the leaderboard but are among the teams with golfers still on the course.
