Troy Sweeps UT Arlington for the First Time in Program History

TROY, Alabama – Troy's offense plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning to power past UT Arlington, 7-4, in game one of the doubleheader before Leanna Johnson shutout the Mavericks in game two, 2-0, to sweep UT Arlington for the first time in program history Saturday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex.
Troy has now completed back-to-back Sun Belt Conference to put themselves on a seven-game win streak.
Kaylee Hussey and Stephanie Snyder each recorded three RBIs to lead the Trojans (25-13, 8-4 Sun Belt) offensive efforts. Annie Willis (7-7) and Leanna Johnson (16-5) combined for 13 strikeouts and scattered nine hits to complete the sweep.
Game One: Troy 7, UT Arlington 4
Troy hopped on the board first in the bottom of the first inning with five runs off of hits by Katie Webb, Bailey Taylor and Hussey. The Trojans scoring was capped off by a three-run home run by Hussey, her fourth long ball of the season.
Troy added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning with hits by Talia Truitt and Hussey.
UT Arlington (17-18, 6-6) added two runs in the sixth and seventh inning with hits by Whitney Walton, Avery Grimes and Krista Rude, but could not complete the comeback.
Annie Willis earned the win after scattering four hits and sitting down seven batters while Randi Phillips (9-10) suffered the loss after giving up three hits and two walks.
Game Two: Troy 2, UT Arlington 0
Leanna Johnson shut out UT Arlington after scattering five hits and sitting down five batters to earn the win in game two of the doubleheader.
The Trojans scored in the bottom of the first inning after Snyder singled to right center to score Truitt who led off with a single and give Troy the lead once and for all.
Troy plated an insurance run in the bottom of third inning when Snyder hit a single through the left side to score Madeline Porter who led off the inning with a double up the middle.
JoJo Valencia (3-4) suffered the loss after allowing two runs off of eight hits and two walks.

"The girls had a really tough week a few weeks ago and had a five-game losing streak, but for them to bounce back and go on a seven-game win streak shows the fight in this team.
