TROY, Ala. – Troy baseball will play host to conference rival Louisiana at Riddle-Pace Field with the three-game series this weekend; all three contests will be broadcast live on ESPN+. First pitches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday are set for 6 p.m., 3 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
Â
The Trojans (11-13, 1-5) had a week off from midweek contests, but are fresh off a big win in the finale at No. 16 Coastal Carolina after a tough start to their Sun Belt slate. Troy fell in the first two games of the series in Conway by two runs before grinding out a 10-8 victory in the finale to notch one in the win column.
Â
Redshirt junior Cory Gill, who had played most of the season as the team's closer, started for the first time since 2016 on Sunday and dealt six strong innings to put the Trojans in a position to win. Gill will once again start for Troy this weekend – this time in Saturday's contest. No changes to the rotation when it comes to the Friday night starter, as sophomore Levi Thomas will start his seventh consecutive series opener.
Â
At the plate, Rigsby Mosley made a grand return to the lineup this past weekend after missing four games due to the concussion protocol. Mosley recorded seven hits in the three games and picked up his 10th double of his sophomore campaign – ranking 22nd nationally in the category.
Â
Dalton Sinquefield has also swung a steady bat for the Trojans – recording multiple hits in each of the first six conference games. The junior ranks third in the Sun Belt with a .536 batting average in league games and leads the pack with 15 hits.
Â
SCOUTING THE CAJUNS
Louisiana (12-14, 3-3) has weathered a tough start to its season, uncharacteristically losing seven of its first eight games of the year and winning just two of its first six series. The Cajuns bounced back to take its conference-opening series at Little Rock but fell in two of three at home to Appalachian State over the weekend. Hayden Cantrelle has paced the offense with one of the better stat lines in the league this season – batting at a .323 clip with six doubles, six homers and 17 stolen bases.
