Troy Stumbles at UT Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington, the Sun Belt Conference's top team, proved it belonged atop the standings with an 88-65 win over Troy Saturday in the College Park Center.
The Mavericks (22-6, 14-3) dominated the second quarter to take a 17-point lead into halftime and the Trojans (20-7, 11-5) could never recover.
The game was competitive through the first quarter as Troy held UTA to 22 percent (4-18) shooting and knocked down a trio of three-pointers to take a 20-13 lead. UT Arlington took advantage of the Trojans' 0-for-5 start to the second quarter to kick start an 8-2 run. The Mavs didn't let off the gas and outscored Troy 30-6 in the frame. The Trojans failed to score a field goal for a 5:50 span in the quarter, committed 11 turnovers and made just 2-of-12 shot attempts.
UTA scored 35 points off 23 Troy turnovers and converted 30-of-38 free throw attempts. Cierra Johnson turned in an award-worthy performance scoring 31 points with 12 rebounds and five assists.
Japonica James led Troy with 11 points and Jasmine LeBlanc turned in a team-high 10 rebounds. The Trojans shot 34.2 percent (24-70) for the game and just 27.6 percent (8-29) from 3-point range.
UP NEXT
Troy returns home for its final two home games of the season. The Trojans host Appalachian State March 7 and Coastal Carolina March 9 in Trojan Arena.

• Troy's offense has been subdued in the last two trips to the College Park Center. The Trojans have averaged just 63 points per game in the last two meetings in Arlington.
