Troy Sweeps on Day Two of the Trojan Classic

TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team ended day two of the Trojan Classic with a pair of wins Saturday evening at the Troy Softball Complex. The Trojans offense powered them past Maryland, 10-1, in five innings in the opener, and Troy followed with a tight win over Murray State, 2-1, in the nightcap.
Bailey Taylor, Katie Webb, Stephanie Snyder and Logan Calhoun all recorded two RBIs to lead the Trojans in the opener against Maryland (1-3), while Leanna Johnson pitched a one-hitter to power Troy (3-1) past Murray State (0-4).
"I thought we pitched well and played good defense," head coach Beth Mullins said. "We hit the ball well today. Anytime we can put 10 runs up, you are going to feel good about it. That second game, we hit well, but didn't do a good job of situational hitting. When you throw a one-hitter though, you don't have to score a lot of runs. Leanna Johnson did a great job, and Annie Willis did a great job the game before. I am a happy coach."
The Trojans finish up the tournament Sunday afternoon as they take on No. 9 Alabama (4-0) at 12:30 p.m.
Game One: Troy 10, Maryland 1 (Five Innings)
Troy jumped on Maryland for five runs in the first inning and the Trojan bats were hot as they pounded out 11 hits in the game.
Talia Truitt led off the first with a single up the middle and Katie Webb singled through the left side to score Truitt following a Murray State error. Stephanie Snyder doubled to right center to score two more and Logan Calhoun followed with a single up the middle to plate Snyder and give Troy a five-run lead at the end of the first.
Maryland answered with a run of its own in the top of the second, but Troy came back with another big five-run inning in the third.
Freshman Kaylee Chapman led off with a single to center field and Hope Hernandez followed with a bunt single. Bailey Taylor, who came in to pinch hit, singled through the left side to score Chapman and Hernandez and stretch Troy's lead to 7-1. Madeline Porter drew a bases-loaded walk to play another run, while Kelly Horne and Calhoun added run-scoring singles later in the frame.
Annie Willis (1-1) notched her first win of the season as she went the distance scattering seven hits and allowing just the one run. Sami Main (0-1) was charged with the loss for Maryland after allowing seven runs – five earned – on seven hits in 2.1 innings.
Game Two: Troy 2, Murray State 1
Troy rallied past Murray State behind a dominate performance in the circle from freshman Leanna Johnson (2-0) who struck out nine Racer batters and allowed just one hit over seven innings of work.
Murray State broke a scoreless game in the top of the fifth as Logan Braundmeier cashed in a walk with a triple to left field. However, the Trojans answered back with two runs in the home half of the inning.
Kaylee Chapman led off the decisive frame with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt following a line out. Madeline Porter skied a pop up right in front of the plate which was misplayed by the Racers allowing the tying run to score. A second Murray State error on the play, an errant thrown trying to catch Porter at second base, allowed Porter to score the eventual winning run.
Troy belted out eight hits in the game paced by two each from Talia Truitt and Kaylee Hussey.
Hannah James (0-3) was the hard-luck loser for Murray State as she allowed two runs – both unearned – on eight hits over six innings.
