JONESBORO, Arkansas – Five Troy players scored in double figures as the Trojans hit 14 three-pointers to light up the scoreboard in a 100-89 win over Arkansas State in First National Bank Arena on Saturday.
The Trojans (17-5, 8-3 SBC) made 14 three-pointers, shot 51.9 percent from range, totaled 21 assists and forced 23 turnovers en route to the regular season sweep of the Red Wolves and the seventh consecutive win in the all-time series for Troy.
The triple digit point total marked the first time the Trojans have reached the 100-point plateau in a Sun Belt Conference game since 2016.
Kayla Robinson led Troy with 16 points and was 3-of-4 from three-point range. Amber Rivers finished with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting and Jasmine LeBlanc, Shaterrika O'Neal and Japonica James chipped in with 11 points each. Tyra Johnson was 3-of-6 from three-point to add nine points.
Troy came out shooting at a blistering pace and finished the opening quarter with 10 makes on 19 attempts. The Trojans' 53 first half points were the most in a Sun Belt game this season. Arkansas State (9-13, 4-7) tied the game at 33-33 midway through the second quarter, but Troy went on a 20-9 run to go into halftime up, 53-42.
The Trojans built a 13-point lead early in the third period, but the Red Wolves used a 15-4 run to pull within two, 59-57. A Jada Ford three-pointer early in the fourth got A-State to within one, 70-69, but that was as close at it would get as Troy scored the next 13 and 30 of the next 50 highlighted by a Johnson triple with 40 seconds left to essentially close out the game.
