Georgia State Races Past Troy, 85-70

TROY, Alabama – Troy suffered a rare home conference loss, 85-70, to Georgia State in Trojan Arena Thursday.
The Trojans (17-6, 8-4) shot just 33 percent (24-72) for the game while the Panthers (14-9, 8-4) finished off the season series sweep making 47 percent (30-64) attempts.
Jasmine Robinson led Troy with 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. As a team, however, the Trojans were just 9-of-34 from range, the same total from the last meeting between the teams in Atlanta.
Troy trailed by as many as 23 in the second half, but was able to cut the deficit to just 10 with 7:23 remaining in the third quarter. Turnovers proved costly as the Trojans handed the ball over 25 times leading to 26 GSU points.
Japonica James turned in her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Allison Johnson led the charge for the Panthers with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting and was 5-for-5 at the free throw line. Walnatia Wright and K.K. Williams each had 18 points for GSU.
Sky'Lynn Holmes pulled down 14 rebounds, her fifth game in Sun Belt Conference play with 13 or more rebounds.
UP NEXT
Troy hosts Georgia Southern Saturday at 2 p.m. The Trojans defeated the Eagles, 97-81, in Statesboro on Jan. 17.
