TROY, Alabama – Matea Mihaljevic and Maria Casas Blas each claimed singles points in two sets, but the Troy women's tennis team fell, 5-2, to Chattanooga Sunday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
The Trojans fell to 1-1 for the season while the Mocs improved to 2-2. Mihaljevic and Casas Blas are now both 2-0 in singles action this season.
DOUBLES
• Mihaljevic and Tingting Pei fell 6-4 to Delaney Edwards and Emma Van Hee.
• Pei Ju Hsieh and Chunxi Guo bounced back to tie doubles action with a 6-3 win over Polina Goloputova and Annie Tarwater.
• Casas Blas and Celia Montero Estevan were defeated by Bogdana Zaporozhets and Lily Holmes 6-2 to hand Chattanooga the doubles point.
SINGLES
• Guo dropped her match to Holmes 6-3, 6-2 to put UTC up, 2-0.
• Pei was then defeated by Zaporozhets 6-1, 6-4.
• Mihaljevic gave the Trojans their first point with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Goloputova.
• Casas Blas also clinched a point for Troy with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Anna Didkovskaya.
• Hall sealed the match for Chattanooga with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Estevan at No. 4.
• Van Hee defeated Hseih 6-3, 4-6 at No. 5.
UP NEXT
The Trojans have 10 days between matches when they travel to take on Alabama State in Montgomery on Feb. 13 at 2 p.m.
