Troy Dominates Singles Play to Down New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – Troy dominated singles play to take down New Orleans, 5-2, on the road Sunday.
Pei Ju Hsieh and Chunxi Guo remained perfect in doubles play improving to 6-0, while Troy took five of the six singles pairings. The Trojans improved to 3-3 on the season, New Orleans fell for the first time and sport a 6-1 record.
Troy is back in action Monday at 1 p.m. when it travels to face Nicholls State.
DOUBLES
• Hsieh and Guo swept Salma Abdelrahim and Britney Johnson, 6-0, to open doubles action, but would be the only doubles point Troy would earn.
• Matea Mihaljevic and Tingting Pei fell, 6-2, to Trang Dao and Ank Vullings.
• New Orleans clinched the double point with a 6-4 victory by Claudette Gilhespie and Lea Alguacil over Celia Montero Estevan and Maria Casas Blas.
SINGLES
• Mihaljevic got the Trojans rolling in singles play with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Dao to pull the match level, 1-1.
• Casas Blas knocked off Yurina Asai, 6-2, 6-3, to give Troy the 2-1 advantage.
• Hsieh moved to 5-1 on the season with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Mar Dendra.
• Guo clinched the match for the Trojans beating Abdelrahim in come-from-behind fashion, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
• Estevan duplicated Guo's style fighting back after dropping the first set to Gilhespie to win, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
• Vullings won UNO's lone singles point downing Pei, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
