Women’s Tennis Continues Play at ITA Southern Regional

AUBURN, Ala. – On Tuesday, the Troy women's tennis team continued its quest at ITA Southern Regionals. On day two several Trojans competed in Round of 64 and 32 action in both singles and doubles play.

Maria Guirguis jumped in the win column first with her three-set victory over Louisiana Tech's Zoie Epps in the main draw's Round of 64. Guirguis took set one, and Epps took set two. In set three, Guirguis overpowered Epps, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

Valeriia Avdeeva also won her main draw Round of 64 matchup against Kristyna Damaskova of UAB. Like Guirguis, Avdeeva took set one but dropped set two via tiebreaker. In set three, Avdeeva proved to be too much for Damaskova taking the set and the match, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

In the main draw's Round of 32, Guirguis took the court against Louisiana Lafayette's Angelique Berrat. She topped Berrat in two sets, plus a tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
Staying with the Round of 32, Avdeeva returned to action to take on Mia Robinson of Mississippi State. They each took a set a piece leading to a decisive third set. Avdeeva went on to secure the victory and move on, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).
