TROY GAME NOTES

Troy, Ala. – Troy welcomes in-state conference rival South Alabama to Trojan Arena on Saturday on ESPN+. Tip is set for 4:15 p.m. after the conclusion of the women's game.

The Trojans (11-14, 4-9 Sun Belt) are coming off a tough 76-51 loss to Georgia Southern on Feb. 15 in Statesboro. Freshman KJ Simon led Troy with a career-high 12 points on a career-high five field goals made. Simon added three steals, two rebounds and an assist to his stat line.

Sophomore Javan Johnson and Darian Adams both poured in 10 points. Johnson tallied four rebounds as well while Adams recorded five rebounds, a career-high four steals and three assists.

On the season, senior Jordon Varnado leads the Trojans averaging 21.5 points per game, second-most in SBC on 52.6 percent shooting while grabbing 7.8 rebounds per game, sixth-most in conference.

Senior Alex Hicks paces the team in rebounds per game (7.9) which is the fifth-most in conference while averaging 12.2 points per game on 52.6 percent (121-230) shooting. Adams leads the team in assists per game averaging 3.5, 10th-best in conference. In conference action, Adams is averaging 4.5 assists per game, sixth-most in conference.

Scouting South Alabama
South Alabama dropped a 90-81 decision to Georgia State last Friday in Atlanta. After the loss, South moved to 12-14 on the season and 5-8 in Sun Belt.

In the game, junior Herb McGee tallied a game- and career-high 26 points including knocking down five threes with a game-high eight assists and three rebounds.

Junior Josh Ajayi leads the Jaguars dropping 15.6 points per game, grabbing 8.0 rebounds per game, fourth in conference and in shooting with a 55.5 percent (142-256) clip, first in Sun Belt. In conference action, junior Trhae Mitchell is second in SBC in rebounds averaging 8.9.

Series History
Saturday's matchup marks the 34th meeting between Troy and South Alabama. The Jaguars hold the series advantage, 22-11 with Troy winning three of last four games. The Trojans dominated USA in an 80-63 win in the last meeting in Troy (2/3/2018).

In the last meeting, South Alabama shot 69.6 percent (16-23) in the second half to hand the Trojans an 81-75 loss inside of Mitchell Center on Feb. 2. Sophomore Darian Adams led Troy recording a career-high 17 points with five rebounds, four assists and a block.
