Troy Sweeps Florida A&M in Midweek Tilt

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – After a busy weekend in Orlando, Troy traveled down to Tallahassee to take on Florida A&M. The Trojans defeated the Lady Rattlers 3-2 and 8-2 in the midweek matchup.

Katie Lively and Stephanie Snyder both had a RBI to lead Troy (9-3) Â over Florida A&M (0-7) in game one while the Trojan offense dominated the second game with ten hits including two home runs.

"I was proud of the grit we showed throughout both games," head coach Beth Mullins said. "I don't think we played our best softball today but found a way to get two wins against a very tough scrappy team."

Game One: Troy 3, Florida A&M 2

Talia Truitt and Madeline Porter led off the first with back-to- back singles. A sac bunt to put both runners in scoring position for Bailey Taylor. A fielding error put Taylor on and scored Truitt. Katie Lively capped off the inning with a single to score Taylor and give Troy a three-run advantage.

Florida A&M answered in the bottom of the second with a run off of a single by Alexis Day and a double by Taylor Rosier.

The teams went through four consecutive scoreless innings before a single in the bottom of the seventh by Kyaira Brown that lead to Brown scoring off of a fielding error by Kaylee Chapman. However, the Lady Rattlers were unable to plate another run giving Troy the close win.

Annie Willis (4-1) earned another win recording nine strikeouts and scattering five hits while Kyaira Brown (0-1) was given her first loss of the season.

Game Two: Troy 8, Florida A&M 2

Florida A&M struck first with a run in the bottom of the first after Tyra Bowers drew a walk and was put into scoring position off of a wild pitch. Bowers then scored off of a groundout.

Troy answered in the top of the second when Kelly Horne sent a long ball over the left center wall.

In the top of the fifth, a late two-out rally capped off by a three-run home run by Bailey Taylor added four runs to the board for Troy and gave them the lead.

Troy went on to score two runs in the top of the sixth off of a triple by Taylor Corbett and singles by Kaylee Hussey and Katie Webb.

Troy's explosive offensive efforts were capped off in the top of seventh when Brooke Echols drew a walk and scored off of a double by Katie Lively.

Leanna Johnson picked up her fifth win of her career after striking out six of the 15 batters she faced while Florida A&M continues their 2019 campaign winless.

Next up, Troy will travel down to Auburn, Alabama to participate in the Tiger Invitational. Troy's first game is set for Friday at 11:30 a.m against Eastern Illinois.
