TROY, Alabama – Troy fell to Southern Mississippi, 6-1, on Sunday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex to complete the weekend.
Southern Mississippi's Tjasa Jerse defeated Troy's Celia Estavan, 7-5, 7-6, to clinch the match for the Golden Eagles. Troy fell to 2-3 while Southern Mississippi improved to 6-0 on the year.
DOUBLES
• Arina Amaning and Tjasa Jerse rolled past Matea Mihaljevic and Tingting Pei, 6-0, to open doubles play.
• Chunxi Guo and Pei Ju Hsiehpulled things level with a 6-4 win over Rikeetha Pereira and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan. Guo and Hsieh remain undefeated in doubles action with a 5-0 record.
• Katia De La Garza and Monique Burton clinched the doubles point for the Golden Eagles with a 7-6 victory over Celia Montero Estevan and Maria Casas Blas.
SINGLES
• Hsieh drew the match level with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lopez to open singles play, Hsieh is 4-1 in singles play this season.
• Yazgan topped Casas Blas, 6-2, 6-3 to put USM ahead, 2-1.
• Amaning defeated Mihaljevic, 6-2, 7-5, 2-6, in a pivotal match.
• Jerse then secured the match victory for Southern Mississippi, 7-5, 7-6 over Estevan.
• Pereira downed Pei, 6-2, 6-3.
• Garza and Guo went to the wire before Garza pulled out the win, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6.
