Troy Sweeps on Day Two of the Diamond 9 Classic

ORLANDO, Fla – The Troy softball team ended day two of the Diamond 9 Classic with a pair of wins Saturday afternoon. The Trojans recorded 19 total hits to lead them over UMass, 5-1, and LIU Brooklyn, 9-1.

Talia Truitt went 5-for-7 on the day scoring three runs while Katie Lively went 2-for-3 with four RBIs to lead Troy (6-3) over LIU Brooklyn (3-6). Leanna Johnson and Annie Willis scattered seven hits and two runs to lead Troy in the circle.

Game One: Troy 5, UMass 1

Talia Truitt led off the top of the first with a bunt single to open up Troy's offense. Madeline Porter followed with a long ball down the left field to record her first home run of the season.

In the top of the third, Truitt again got on with a bunt single. Truitt stole second and then scored on of a single by Katie Webb.

Katie Lively reach off an error in the fourth. Back-to-back singles by Hope Hernandez and Logan Calhoun scored Corbett who entered to pinch run for Lively.

Troy's win was capped off by a leadoff double by Lively who later scored off of a fielder's choice.

Leanna Johnson (3-1) earned her third win of the season after recording 11 strikeouts and scattering four hits.
Â
UMass (0-4) hit a leadoff home run in bottom of the fourth by Kaitlyn Stavinoha to score its only run of the game.

Game Two: Troy 9, LIU Brooklyn 1

In the top of the first, Samantha Garcia hit a home run over the right center wall to give the Blackhawks their only run of the game.

Troy answered with four runs in the bottom of the first to give Troy the lead once and for all.

Talia Truitt lead off with her third bunt single of the day. Bailey Taylor and Stephanie Snyder reached off of a hit by pitch and an error by the third baseman to put score Truitt and put two on for Katie Lively. Back-to-back doubles by Lively and Kaylee Hussey capped off Troy's four-run inning.

Katie Webb and Taylor both recorded singles in the bottom of the third. Lively grounded out and Kaylee Chapman singled to score two.

Troy's scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to run-rule the Blackhawks.

Webb walked and scored off of a double by Lively. Chapman drew a walk and Kelly Horne was hit by a pitch to put two on for Logan Calhoun. Calhoun hit a walk-off single to right center to end the game in five innings.

Annie Willis (3-1) earned recorded three strikeouts and gave up just three hits to earn her third win of the season.

Troy plays its final game of the Diamond 9 Classic Sunday morning at 8 a.m. against Saint Joseph's. Elena Valenzuela picked up her first loss of the season allowing seven hits and only one strikeout.
