TROY, Alabama – Katie Webb and Annie Willis were named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team while Troy was picked to finish third, the league announced on Friday.
Â
Webb was named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team at the end of last season after starting all 60 games for the Trojans. Webb recorded the highest batting average on the team with a .349 and highest slugging percentage with a .497 mark. Â The Salem, Ala. native led the team with 38 RBIs and led the league in doubles with 14 (alongside teammate Logan Calhoun). Webb also tallied 20 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games.
Â
Sophomore Annie Willis adds another all-conference selection to her resume after being named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and first team all-conference last season.
Â
A product of Huntsville, Ala., Willis led Troy with 117 strikeouts in 166 innings of work. Willis recorded the fourth best ERA in the conference with a 2.57 and the fourth-lowest opposing batting average with a .230. During the season, Willis was a two-time Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week after standout performances in the Diamond 9 Classic in Orlando, Fla., and in her victory over No. 21 Texas State.
Â
"I am really excited and proud for both Annie and Katie," Coach Beth Mullins said. "I think these honors reflect the years they both had in 2018 and also the respect they have from the whole conference as players."
Â
The Trojans were picked to finish third in the league behind Louisiana and Texas State. Troy trailed Texas State by just six points.
Â
Troy opens their season up at home on Friday, February 8th. Troy will take on Maryland at 3 PM and Alabama at 5:30 PM.
