Trojans Primed For Postseason Debut

TROY, Ala. – Troy volleyball hits the road to Atlanta for its first-ever postseason appearance against North Carolina A&T in the First Round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC). The Trojans and Aggies will meet for the first time in the schools' history Friday at 3 p.m. (CT) with Georgia Tech as the host institution.

The winner will advance to the second round to play the winner of Georgia Tech (21-8) and Alabama A&M (20-14) Saturday at 6 p.m. (CT).

North Carolina A&T
North Carolina A&T, which is also making its program postseason debut, went 16-14 this season, marking its third straight season of finishing .500 or better. The Aggies, who completed their best Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) season in school history at 13-1, were crowned MEAC Southern Division champions, their first regular-season title in 21 years.

Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech finished the regular season with a 21-8 record, its first 20-win season since 2016 when the Jackets went 24-8. Tech's 14-4 record in the ACC was good for second place, despite a preseason projection of finishing 11th in the conference. It marked the Jackets' highest finish in conference play since 2004 when they went undefeated to claim the regular season title. Georgia Tech finished the regular season with a 13-1 record in O'Keefe Gymnasium.

Alabama A&M
Alabama A&M finished the regular season with a 20-14 record, the Bulldogs' third 20-win season in the last four years. The Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament before falling to eventual champions and NCAA Qualifier Alabama State. Terra Brooks and Jaelin Gant lead Alabama A&M offensively with 268 and 254 kills respectively. The Bulldogs have the SWAC Setter of the Year in Megan Evans, who led the league in assists with 917 while averaging 8.65 per set.

Trojans Storylines
- This will be the first-ever meeting between Troy (22-9) and North Carolina A&T (16-14). It will also be the first time in program history the Trojans have played a match in the month of December.
- Troy has doubled its win total from 2018. It's +11-win differential from 2018 to 2019 is tied for the eighth-best turnaround in NCAA Division I.
- Troy checked in at No. 88 in this week's NCAA Volleyball RPI rankings. Earlier this season, the Trojans clocked in at No. 71 which was the highest ranking in school history. Troy ended 2018 with an RPI of 239.
- Troy is limiting opponents to an average of 10.86 kills per set this season. That is the lowest season average the Trojans have allowed in the rally scoring era (2001).
- Amara Anderson leads the league in both total assists (1,289) and assists per set (11.41). She is only player in the Sun Belt ranked in the top 15 nationally in each category, ranking 11th in total assists and 15th in assists per set. As only a sophomore, Anderson is already seventh on Troy's all-time assists list with 2,506.
- BALANCED ATTACK: Twice in the last three matches, Troy has had five individuals record double-digit kills in the same match (Cheyenne Hayes, Ashley Guenveur, Julia Brooks, Caitlin Cooper, Halston Hillier).
