Â
TROY, Ala. – Troy returns home to The Vet Saturday for the first time in almost a month when the Trojans play host to Georgia Southern on Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Â
The Troy Sports Radio Network will have full coverage beginning at 12:30 p.m. live from the plaza in front of Trojan Arena.
Â
Troy (3-5, 1-3 Sun Belt) is looking to bounce back from a pair of tough road losses at Coastal Carolina and Georgia State each of the last two weeks. The Trojans averaged 508.5 yards in those two games with Kaleb Barker throwing for 806 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions.
Â
The Trojans' senior quarterback is second nationally with 346.0 passing yards per game in conference play while his 21 touchdowns are the most by a Troy quarterback through eight games in the school's DI era.
Â
Barker and the Troy offense will have to take advantage of their opportunities Saturday against a Georgia Southern (5-3, 3-1) team that has won four straight games and limits possessions due to their option-based offense.Â
Â
The Eagles are seventh nationally averaging 269.2 yards per game on the ground which is a stark contrast to the 44.6 yards they average through the air. Georgia Southern enters the week riding high following a 24-21 victory over No. 20 App State last Thursday.
Â
Notable
• Kaylon Geiger ranks third nationally with a reception on 86.9 percent (53-of-61) of his targets this season. He is coming off a 12-catch game (on 12 targets) at Coastal Carolina where he totaled 145 yards.
Â
• Troy has won two straight against Georgia Southern in a series that has featured several long winning streaks. The Trojans won the first nine games in the series before the Eagles responded with six wins over the next seven games before Troy's current two-game streak.
Â
• Troy has forced an average of 2.09 turnovers per game since the start of the 2016 season, which is the most in the country. The Trojans' 63 interceptions over that same time period rank second nationally behind Wisconsin's 65.Â
Â
• Linebacker Carlton Martial is the nation's active leader in career forced fumbles per game and ranks second nationally this season with 1.9 tackles for loss per game.Â
Â
Quotable – Troy Head Coach Chip Lindsey
"This team is very resilient, and I think they have a lot of character and they'll continue to fight, practice and play extremely hard and make Troy University proud."
