Trojans Welcome Chattanooga Tuesday

TROY, Ala. – The Troy Trojans men's basketball program closes out a brief two-game home stand Tuesday night welcoming the Chattanooga Mocs for a 6 p.m. contest at Trojan Arena.
LAST TIME OUT- (Troy, 0-1):
The Trojans are coming off a heartbreaking 76-75 loss to in-state rival UAB. After a wild first half that saw UAB take the lead by as many as 12 points, the Trojans came roaring back, riding a 15-2 outburst to take a four-point (30-26) advantage into the break. A 21-4 Blazers run gave the visitors a 61-49 lead with 8:46 remaining in the contest. Troy would respond with a 19-3 run to take a 64-64 lead with 4:18 remaining in the ballgame. Down the stretch, the Trojans opened up a seven-point lead with two minutes to go, but a Makhtar Gueye 3-pointer with just over five ticks remaining proved to be the difference.
In defeat, sophomore KJ Simon set a new career-high, leading all scorers with 21 points on 9-12 shooting. The Trojans received 18 points and five assists from Montgomery product Darian Adams and 18 points and four assists from JUCO transfer Ty Gordon. The Trojan connected on 12 3-pointers Thursday night, shooting 12-28 from behind the arc for the game.
LAST TIME OUT- (Chattanooga, 1-1)
The Chattanooga Mocs enter Tuesday's matchup at Trojan Arena with a record of 1-1. The Mocs opened the 2019-20 season with a 79-68 loss at Eastern Kentucky. Chattanooga avenged the opening night loss with a 59-57 victory over Tennessee State in the home opener. Graduate Student and Vanderbilt transfer Matt Ryan led the way scoring 11 points on 4-14 shooting. The Mocs overcame a tough offensive first half where they shot just 8-30 (22 percent), shooting 13-30 (42 percent) from the floor and 3-8 from behind the arc in the second half. In the preseason, Chattanooga was projected to finish sixth in the Southern Conference Media Preseason Poll. So far this season three Mocs are averaging at least 10 points per-game.
Trojan Storylines
• Troy opened the Scott Cross era with the second-largest Trojan Arena crowd in program history. The announced attendance of 5,010 was the most since the Trojans drew 5,120 against Mississippi State in the Trojan Arena opener.
• Troy opens the season with back-to-back home games for the first time since the 2016-17
season.
• The Trojans received three stellar performances from Darian Adams, Ty Gordon and KJ Simon on Thursday night as the three guards combined for 57 points and 11 3-pointers. Simon, making his second career start, scored a career-best 21 points on an efficent 9-12 shooting. Adams also set a new career-best, scoring 18 points and adding five assists. Gordon also dropped 18 contributing four assists and four rebounds.
• The Trojans turned the ball over just seven times on Thursday night. In the second half, Troy turned it over just twice.

Sophomore KJ Simon made his second career start last Thursday night, scoring a career-best 21 points on 9-12 shooting. The Orlando, Fla. native was also 3-5 from deep and added three steals and an assist. The guard recorded his sixth-career game with multiple steals, and now has 24 steals in 30 career games.
