Final Results
NASHVILLE – All five Troy golfers finished in the top six to lead the Trojans to a convincing 15-shot victory at the Town & Country Invitational Tuesday at the McCabe Golf Course. Nicole Lorup and ShaeLee Scarberry tied for the individual title to lead the Trojans; it was Lorup's second straight individual medalist honor.
Troy shot even par as a team Tuesday to rally from a one-shot deficit entering the round to winning by 15 shots over Lipscomb – it marks the first time since the 2015-16 season that Troy has won multiple tournaments; the Trojans won the Chris Banister Golf Classic just two weeks ago. Lorup led the charge with a 2-under 68, Scarberry shot even while Elisabeth Preus, Judith Castro and Anna Claire Little added rounds of 1-over.
"Top to bottom we're pretty deep and they are just getting better," head coach Randy Keck said. "They are pushing each other to get better every day in practice. It feels good to win again and to keep generating momentum. Hopefully we can carry that over to our final tournament of the fall and pick up another win."
The Trojans led the field in par 3 (+3), par 4 (+11) and par 5 (-3) scoring with a tournament-best 18 birdies over the two rounds. Lorup paced the field playing the par-4 holes at 1-under while Scarberry was best on the par 3 (-2) and par 5 (-2) holes. Scarberry and Preus each carded eight birdies to lead the field.
Lorup made the turn even following nine pars to open her round before carding three birdies over her first six holes on the back nine. She sat 3-under with three holes to play but a bogey on No. 16 pushed her to 2-under for the day.
Scarberry was 3-under through 16 holes with five birdies in her round and held a three-shot lead over Lorup entering the final two holes. However; a bogey on the 17th and a double-bogey on No. 18 brought her even on the day and tied with Lorup overall.
Preus added four birdies on the day and finished in fourth place just a shot behind the leaders while Little and Castro tied for sixth place at 5-over par. Playing as an individual, Ainsley Cowart shot 4-over Tuesday and tied for 29thplace.
