Futrell Stays Hot, Troy Third at Pinetree Intercollegiate

TROY, Ala. – Connor Futrell continued his historic start to the season Monday in the opening two rounds of the Pinetree Intercollegiate with a 9-under 135 over the first 36 holes of play to lead Troy to a third place standing after two rounds.
Futrell's 135 is the second-lowest 36-hole total in school history and his two rounds in the 60s gives him eight on the season in just 13 rounds played. Slotted No. 77 in the initial Golfstat rankings, Futrell carded 13 birdies to tie for most among the field and sits in second place overall just one shot behind Belmont's Evan Davis.
After opening with par in the second round, Futrell birdied five straight holes before a bogey on the ninth put him 4-under at the turn. He followed with a birdie on the 11thand the 16thfor his second 66 of the season.
Brent Hamm dropped a pair of eagles – one in each round – and is tied for 10thplace at 1-over par following Monday's action. He shot 1-under in the opening round with a birdie and the eagle, while shooting 2-over in the afternoon session.
Troy rebounded from an abysmal start to sit fifth after one round and third after the conclusion on Monday's play. The Trojans were in last place at the turn in the morning round before shooting 3-under on the back nine. Troy answered with a 1-over in the second round to climb within five shots of Mercer for the lead and three shots behind Kennesaw State for second.
Jake Tiffin carded nine birdies over the two rounds, including six in the second round to help overcome a rocky start with two doubles to open the second round. Tiffin is tied for 18thplace at 4-over. Playing as an individual, Ryan Morrison shot 8-over and is tied for 37th, while Will McFadden and Nicklas Borrman are tied for 49that 11-over.
Troy will be in the lead group for Tuesday's final round as the Trojans will hit the course with Mercer and Kennesaw State beginning at 7:45 a.m. (CT).
