TROY, Ala. – With record-setting individual and team performances in the books, the Troy men's golf team wraps its fall schedule with a trip to the Pinetree Intercollegiate at the Pinetree Country Club Monday and Tuesday.
The Trojans have turned in a trio of sixth-place finishes and one second-place performance so far against a schedule loaded with top teams. As a team, Troy already has four rounds under par while Trojan golfers have combined for 18 rounds under par – last season, Troy had just two team rounds under par and 20 individual rounds under par.
"This is a tournament that we haven't been to in awhile but it is a good course and a good field," head coach Bart Barnes said. "This is our fifth tournament of the fall and we've had some record-setting play both at the team level and individual level. What we haven't done is put together a full performance up and down the lineup, and that is our goal this week – if we do that, we have a chance to compete and win."
Connor Futrell has put together one of the best falls in school history with a 70.09 stroke average and -1.64 score vs. par through his first 11 rounds of the year. The Tallahassee native has shot under par six times and a big part of his success has come thanks to a 69.25 average in opening rounds.
Another big reason for Troy's early success has been the play of senior Jake Tiffin who has a 72.73 stroke average on the fall, which is more than 3.5 shots better than his career average. Tiffin has found the red five times this year with two rounds in the 60s.
Will McFadden enters the final tournament of the fall as the lone Trojan to have all his rounds count towards the team card. McFadden carries a 72.91 average and 1.18 score vs. par with four rounds under par to the Pinetree Intercollegiate.
Brent Hamm has shot three rounds under par on the year and boasts a 73.91 average while Nicklas Borrmann is in search for his first round in the red with a 75.50 average. Ryan Morrison will play as an individual for the Trojans; he has a 75.45 average on the year.
