Trojans Face Tough Road Tests In Texas

TROY, Ala. – Troy looks to continue its best start in school history as it hits the road to Texas for its last two cross-division matches of conference play. The Trojans will square off with Texas State Friday at 6:30 p.m. and UTA Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The Trojans (15-3, 5-1 Sun Belt) are seeking their first win over West division-leader Texas State (14-7, 6-1 Sun Belt) in school history. Troy is 4-0 against Sun Belt West division teams this season.
"We're excited for this weekend's challenge," head coach Josh Lauer said. "Texas State is one of the best teams in the conference right now, they're defending conference champions and we're excited to see where we stack up. These are the matchups you want."

Two Trojans have the ability to pass impressive career milestones this weekend. Cheyenne Hayes is just 22 kills away from the 1,000-career kill mark and would be the 11th Trojan in school history to accomplish the feat. Amara Anderson is 51 assists away from her 2,000th career assist.
Anderson's ability to run the Trojan offense will be crucial against the top two teams from the West Division. Her 11.36 assists per set ranks eighth nationally and leads the Sun Belt. Additionally, the sophomore ranks 17th in the nation in total assists with 727 on the year.
Two Trojans have a top-ten league hitting percentage this season. Caitlin Cooper (.325) is fourth in the league while Julia Brooks sits just outside the top five at .310.
Once again, the service game will be a key for Troy. Lacey Jeffcoat (0.47) and Natalie Hummel (0.41) rank fourth and fifth respectively in the league in aces per set.
Know Your Opponent – Texas State
Troy is holding opposing teams to an average hitting percentage of .154 this season, which is the lowest mark in the league and ranks 21st nationally. The Trojans will need to have another impressive performance against a Bobcat team hitting .290 in conference play this season.
Troy has had four players record double-digit kill numbers in each of its last two matches and will need to get the offense rolling early Friday night. Through its first seven conference matches, Texas State is holding opponents to .102 hitting.
The Trojans are 0-10 all-time against the Bobcats, including 0-4 on the road.
Know Your Opponent – UTA
Troy is looking for just its second win over UTA in school history as the Trojans are 1-9 all-time against the Mavericks. Brooke Townsend leads UTA with 250 kills (3.68 K/S) this season. Madelyn St. Germain ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in digs per set with 4.39 this season.
UTA has been slightly more efficient hitting than Troy during conference play. The Mavericks are hitting .208 while Troy is hitting .202.

- Caitlin Cooper had a career outing last weekend, hitting a career-high 11 kills against ULM and then tying her career high the next night with 11 kills against Louisiana. Her .647 hitting percentage against ULM was the fifth-highest in a match in school history (min. 10 kills).
