SAN MARCOS, Texas – Troy dropped its second league match of the season Friday against Texas State, 3-0 (35-37, 16-25, 13-25). The Trojans had their chances in a whirlwind of a first set but couldn't seal the deal.
Cheyenne led the Trojans with 13 kills on the night while Julia Brooks added 12 of her own. Amara Anderson registered 35 assists while Lacey Jeffcoat recorded 18 digs in the back row. Kiara Barrett led the Trojans from the service line with two aces on the night.
"We had a few chances in the first set and just couldn't convert," head coach Josh Lauer said. "We got a little inconsistent at different points in the match and Texas State took advantage of it. We will regroup, make some adjustments and be ready to go at UT Arlington tomorrow."
Set One
The opening set kept fans on the edge of their seats with 15 ties and three lead changes in a set that went well beyond the 30-point threshold. Troy got off to a great start, forcing an early Bobcat timeout at 8-3. The Trojans held a late four-point lead at 21-17 but couldn't halt a Texas State run to tie the match at 22-22. Neither team could gain a two-point advantage until the Bobcats clinched a wild first set, 37-35.
Set Two
Troy was unable to respond in set two after a tough after opening set loss. Things were tight early in the set with the teams trading points until a 9-9 tie. Texas State would gain a four-point advantage at 18-14 en route to taking a 2-0 match lead with a 25-16 set two victory.
Set Three
Things were tight once again in the early goings of the third set. An ace from Barrett brought Troy within two at 9-7, but the Trojans couldn't get over the hump. Troy wasn't able to find its grove in the final set as Texas State's high-powered offense took over. The Bobcats clinched their fifth-straight sweep with a 25-13 win in set three.
