TROY, Ala. – Troy picked up an important cross-division victory Saturday night, defeating Louisiana 3-1 (25-23, 25-11, 15-25, 25-17). The Trojans (15-3, 5-1 Sun Belt) improve to 10-0 at home this season, which is the longest home winning streak in Trojan Arena history.
Amara Anderson capped an impressive weekend with her ninth double-double of the season, recording 46 assists and 14 digs against the Ragin' Cajuns. Lacey Jeffcoat shined in the back row, digging 19 balls on the night.
Troy had four players with double-digit kill numbers for the second straight match, led by Ashley Guenveur's team-high 13 kills. The freshman added 11 digs to her stat line for her fifth double-double of the season. Julia Brooks (12), Cheyenne Hayes (11) and Caitlin Cooper (11) all finished with double-digit kills as well.
Serving was key for the Trojans, especially late in the match, as Troy finished with eight aces on the night. Natalie Hummel led the way from the line with a season-high four aces.
"I'm really proud of how gritty we were tonight," head coach Josh Lauer said. "We came out a little shaky, but we stabilized. This team has done a good job of maintaining their composure. It was a really good home weekend for us."
Set One
Louisiana were the early aggressors in the match, jumping out to a quick 8-3 lead to force an early Trojan timeout. The Ragin' Cajuns pushed their lead to 13-7 before Troy started to slowly chip away. A kill from Cooper pulled the Trojans to within one at 15-16, but Louisiana would find itself with a two-point advantage at 20-22. Troy closed the set with a 5-1 run to steal the first set, 25-23.
Set Two
Troy pounced on the Ragin' Cajuns in the second set, opening a swift 9-3 lead to force an early Louisiana timeout. The Trojans extended their lead to 20-7 to force the second Ragin' Cajun timeout of the set. Louisiana fended off four Troy set points, but a Guenveur kill put an exclamation point on the set. The Trojans dominated set two from start to finish, 25-11.
Set Three
The Ragin' Cajuns would rebound, however, with a solid set three performance. Things were tight in the early goings until Louisiana rallied off four straight points at 10-6. Troy would pull within two halfway through the set, but it was all Louisiana from that point on. The Ragin' Cajuns clinched the set, 25-15.
Set Four
The teams exchanged points back-and-forth through a 12-12 tie to begin the final set. Hummel put an end to that with back-to-back aces to give Troy a 14-12 advantage. Troy would take control of the match from there, opening an eight-point lead at 23-15. Cooper put the match on ice for the Trojans, slamming home a kill to clinch the set, 25-17.
