Troy Shows Toughness in Win over Little Rock

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team battled back from a 10-point, third quarter deficit to knock off the reigning Sun Belt Conference champions, 71-66, on Thursday in Trojan Arena.
The teams exchanged the lead 18 times and were tied 11 times in a conference slugfest between two programs that have split the last four Sun Belt tournament titles.
Troy (12-2, 3-0 SBC) trailed, 53-43, with 1:35 to play in the third quarter, but outscored Little Rock (6-8, 2-1) 28-13 over the final 11 minutes to extend its winning streak to six games, matching its season-long from last year.
Junior point guard Kayla Robinson was held scoreless in the first half, but exploded in the third quarter scoring nine of the team's 14 points. Robinson added seven in the fourth to finish with 16 for the game to go along with six rebounds.
On her birthday, senior Sky'Lynn Holmes posted her eighth career double-double with 10 points, 18 boards and two blocks.
Japonica James willed the team to victory with a game- and career-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting. The junior pulled in seven boards in 26 minutes of action.
The Trojans dominated the boards 51-30 including 24 offensive rebounds. Little Rock did not score a single second chance point with six offensive rebounds.
Preseason Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year fouled out finishing with team-best 15 points and eight rebounds.
Trailing by six, 58-52, with 7:01 to play in the game, Troy used a 19-6 run through the middle of the quarter to claim the lead for good.
QUOTABLE
"The girls were dialed in," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "We did not play well to begin the game, but the will to win cannot be beaten and that what showed in the end."

Troy hosts Arkansas State on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Red Wolves defeated South Alabama, 77-64 Thursday in Mobile.
