BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Troy indoor track and field closed out the KMS Invite at the Birmingham CrossPlex with numerous personal bests and a few new names in the school's indoor record book.
Â
Highlighting all performances was Gabrielle Henderson, who had a monster day on the track. Henderson set a new personal best in the 60m dash semis before shattering that time with a 7.57-second run in the finals, which was good enough for third place in the event and is the second-fastest time in school history.
Â
Caleb Brown – who moved into second all-time in the indoor weight throw last week – improved upon that mark with an 18.23-meter toss and finished third. The women's distance medley relay team crossed the line in third with a time of 12:40.75.
Â
A few more individual student-athletes had career days at the meet – including personal bests from Jess Jacobsen, Samara Nelson and Jordan McCleskey. Jacobsen's shot put mark of 15.92 meters is the second-best in school history and McCleskey's 48.61-second 400m time ranks third all-time on the indoor list.
Â
Other notable performances include top 5 finishes by Precious Ogba (women's 200m), Madison Kennedy (women's 400m), Amir Harris (men's 200m), JaMeeka Middlebrooks (women's 60m hurdles) and Genesis Jones (women's high jump). Overall, 15 different Trojans placed in the top 8 of their respective events.
Â
Troy will venture away from the Birmingham CrossPlex for the first time this season this upcoming weekend, as it heads to the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., Friday and Saturday. The Trojans will then return to the CrossPlex for one final tune-up before the Sun Belt Championships on February 18-19.
