Jonesboro, Ark. – Troy men's basketball is set for a 4 p.m. Saturday contest against Arkansas State inside of First National Bank Arena. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.Â

The Trojans (8-7, 1-2 SBC) are coming off a tough 73-59 loss to Little Rock on Thursday. In the game, senior Jordon Varnado posted his fourth double double of the season and 22nd of his career in 26 points and 11 rebounds.Â

Sophomore Javan Johnson filled the stat sheet with nine points, six rebounds, two blocks and an assist while senior Alex Hicks nearly posted a double double in eight points and 11 rebounds.Â

On the season, Varnado leads the Trojans averaging 18.6 points per game, eighth in the Sun Belt Conference while grabbing 7.6 rebounds per contest, sixth-most in conference.

Senior Alex Hicks paces the team in rebounds per game (8.2) which is the fourth-most in conference and in shooting from the field at 53.2 percent (75-of-141), third in conference. Sophomore Darian Adams leads the team in assists per game with averaging 2.8.

Arkansas State (9-9, 2-1 SBC) grinded out a 66-65 win over South Alabama on Thursday to remain undefeated (6-0) at the First National Bank Arena and improve to 2-1 in conference.Â

In the game, senior Ty Cockfield posted a team-high 22 points, 12 of which coming from the charity stripe, with four rebounds, a pair of steals and two assists while sophomore Marquis Eaton poured in 18 points alongside four boards.

Cockfield paces the Red Wolves, dropping 20.6 points per contest, third in Sun Belt.

Saturday's contest marks the 21st meeting between the teams. The series is knotted up at 10 apiece with Troy winning three of the last four games. Troy suffered a heartbreaking 82-80 loss in the last meeting in Jonesboro (1/21/17).

In the last meeting, then-senior Wesley Person hit two threes late in the game while then-freshman Javan Johnson tallied two late blocks to force overtime where the Trojans would eventually outlast Arkansas State, 89-83 in Trojan Arena on Feb. 8, 2018.Â
