Troy Drops Overtime Contest at Tennessee Tech
9/7/2018 9:53:00 PM | Soccer
COOKEVILLE, Tennessee – Troy suffered a tough 2-1 loss in overtime at Tennessee Tech on Saturday.
Tennessee Tech (4-3-0) scored early on a long-distance shot from Marta Moreno. Moreno collected the ball 30 yards from goal, spit a pair of defenders and fired a shot that sailed into the top right corner.
With the Trojans pushing numbers forward and just 10 seconds remaining in regulation, junior Kiersten Edlund connected with a loose ball at the top of the box and squared a shot that found its way past the keeper to send the game to overtime.
It didn't take long for Tennessee Tech to end it on the Golden Goal rule as a pass from goalkeeper Miranda Schoening was intercepted and tapped in by Kendall Powell just four minutes into overtime.
Troy (1-5-1) appeared to have tied the game in the 76thminute when a cross found the head of freshman Kate Eubanks, who planted it into the right, side netting of goal, but she was ruled offside. On Tuesday at Jacksonville State, the Trojans were called offside on what would have been the game-winning goal.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Trojans 13-9 in the game, while both teams put five shots on target.
