Cross Country Set For Azalea City Classic

Troy, Ala. – The Troy men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Mobile, Ala., to race in the Azalea City Classic at Brookley Field Golf Course on Friday. The women's five-kilometer race is set for 4:05 p.m. start time with the men following at approximately 4:35 p.m. for their eight-kilometer race.Â

The women will send eight out of the nine runners that competed in the JSU Struts Season Opener last Friday to hoist the uniform once again. Senior Krystin Guirey and junior Jenna Oden will represent the upperclassmen. Sophomore duo Michaela Ashley and Kara Coulter alongside freshman quartet Caroline Franklin, Sydney Singletary, Tanner Guest and Caroline Sall complete the lineup for the Trojans.Â

Three Trojans will place on a Troy uniform for the first time this season in senior Brennan Garriques and juniors Austin Gray and Daniel Glick. Seniors Brackin Stewart and Sawyer Sprung will round out the upperclassmen making the trip. Closing out the Trojan runners are sophomores Thomas Ward and Delaney Moore and freshmen Blake Vaughn and Isaiah Eller.Â

Racing against the Trojans are Alabama State, Marion Military Institute, Mobile, New Orleans, Southern, Spring Hill and host South Alabama.Â

Last Time Out
The Trojans kicked off the 2018 season last Friday, Aug. 31 at the JSU Struts Season Opener with the men turning in a fourth-place finish and the women finishing second out of the 16-team field each. The men scored 108 points paced by Stewart who won the five-kilometer race in a personal best 15:33.30. Sall led the women who tallied 67 points with a seventh-place finish in 19:46.70.
