9/4/2018 9:56:00 PM | Soccer
JACKSONVILLE, Alabama – Troy and Jacksonville State ended in a scoreless draw for the second straight meeting as the teams battled evenly through a double overtime match at the JSU Soccer Complex on Tuesday.
Troy (1-4-1) created a couple of early chances on corners with Lauren Aldrich getting off a pair of headers with the second clanking off the crossbar. The Trojans' best scoring opportunity of the first half came in the 32nd minute when Grace Mirly hauled in a cross from the right wing, but pushed her shot just over the crossbar.
The second half was a different story for Troy as the team produced nine shots after halftime compared to the three in the first half. It appeared that the Trojans had finally broken through in the 72nd minute when Kendra Cashion collected a loose ball in the box and tapped it in the net, but the assistant referee ruled her offside.
Freshman goalkeeper Acelya Aydogmus registered her second clean sheet of the season recording eight saves along the way. Maddie Brune and Claire Taylor were the lone Trojans to play the full 110 minutes.
UP NEXT
Troy plays game two of its four-game road stretch with a trip to Cookeville, Tenn., to take on Tennessee Tech on Friday at 7 p.m.
NOTEWORTHY
• Freshman Kate Eubanks made her first career start getting the nod at center back.
• Troy has now held Jacksonville State without a goal for 347 minutes of action.
• The back-to-back draws are the only two in the 17-game all-time series.
