TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's golf team faces a quick turnaround as the Trojans open play at the Starmount Fall Classic in Greensboro, N.C., on Monday after playing in the Golfweek Conference Challenge last week in Colorado. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and wrap up the event with 18 holes on Tuesday.
"We're a little bit tired, but we had a good practice round and really hit the ball well," head coach Randy Keck said. "This was our first trip in our new Sprinter Van and it really helped make the trip have a different feel. The kids are a lot more relaxed, had a lot of fun on the trip and are much more rested than they normally would have been."
The Trojans have played two tournaments so far this fall with different results. Troy opened with a third-place finish at The Lady Maxwell before slipping last week against a field loaded with top teams from 18 different conferences across the country.
"We're excited to play again," Keck said. "College golf is a marathon and not a sprint. It is important that they understand that we cannot dwell on one bad tournament and that we need to continue to focus on the end of the year and preparing for postseason play."
Freshman Nicole Lorup leads Troy with a +2.83 score vs. par after the first two events of the season and has the Trojans lone round under par on the year. She has played extremely well in the opening round of the two tournaments with a 71.00 stroke average.
Seniors Bianca Lohbauer, Sarah Harrison and Lindsey Harrison are all within two strokes of each other and have seen five of their six rounds count towards the team card this season. Sarah Harrison led Troy last week at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, while Lohbauer finished sixth in the season opener.
Jordan Susce finds herself back in the lineup this week for the Trojans, while Judith Castro and Anna Claire Little will play the event as individuals.
