Troy Women’s Hoops Holds First Practice

TROY, Alabama – In front of a group of supporters that were on hand to meet and greet the 2018-19 Trojans, the Troy women's basketball team held its first practice – a 90-minute session – in Trojan Arena on Tuesday.
Troy is coming off an 18-13 campaign, its fourth consecutive season of at least 18 wins, and returns nine letterwinners from last year's squad that was four points shy of making its third straight appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship game.
"I definitely believe this is the best talent pool we've ever had since I've been here at Troy," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "We want to get the best results out of them. We've been to the NCAA Tournament twice, we want to get back and we want to win in it."
Senior Sky'Lynn Holmes, last year's Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year, enjoyed a successful season after joining the program from Tyler Junior College and is ready to carry the team to its third conference title.
"We're pushing to work hard every single day," Holmes said. "We've got a lot of talent this year, so we're just going to put in the work."
Jasmine LeBlanc took a redshirt last year after transferring from Louisiana Tech, but says she's looking forward to joining the five newcomers on the court this season.
"It was hard sitting out last year," LeBlanc said. "I stayed on campus (during summer break) and worked hard on the court and in the classroom. (The message) is just staying together and making to the NCAA Tournament."
The Trojans host West Florida in an exhibition on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. before opening the regular season at Florida State on Nov. 6.
