TROY, Ala. – Troy junior quarterback Kaleb Barker has been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday morning.
Barker accounted for four touchdowns and 323 yards of total offense in Troy's 35-27 victory at ULM this past Saturday to open league play. The junior signal caller completed 82.1 percent of his passes (23-of-28) for 273 yards and two touchdowns – his current 69.4 career completion percentage is tops in Troy history among quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts.
A native of Decatur, Ala., Barker connected on 14 straight pass attempts as he and fellow quarterback Sawyer Smith led the Trojans on five touchdown drives in a row to close out the first half of play.
On the ground, Barker rushed 15 times for 50 yards and two scores as he became the first Troy quarterback since 2015 to rush for multiple touchdowns in a game. Barker has now accounted for 10 touchdowns (seven passes, three rushing) in Troy's four games this season, while only throwing two interceptions.
Troy totaled 469 yards of total offense in the victory as the Trojans won for the first time in Monroe since 2001.
Following a pair of road wins, Troy returns home this weekend to host Coastal Carolina on Military Appreciation Day at The Vet. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. and the pregame festivities will feature a flyover from a C-130, field-length American flag and a military enlistment ceremony.
