Troy Set For Season Opener on Friday

Troy, Ala. – The Troy men's and women's cross country teams are set to open the 2018 campaign on Friday evening as the Trojans will travel to Oxford, Ala., to race in the JSU Struts Season Opener at Choccolocco Park. The women will race first at 6 p.m., running five kilometers while the men will follow in running a seven-kilometer race at approximately 6:45 p.m.

For the men, Troy will send two seniors in Brackin Stewart and Sawyer Sprung who finished 17th and 19th respectively at the Sun Belt Championships last season. Alongside the senior duo will be junior Austin Gray and sophomores Delaney Moore and Thomas Ward. Closing out the Troy lineup are freshmen Blake Vaughn and Isaiah Eller who will begin their collegiate careers.

For the women, Krystin Guirey will be the lone senior and Jenna Oden will be the only junior. Joining the two upperclassmen are sophomores Macki Walsh, Michaela Ashley and Kara Coulter who led the Trojans with a 36-place finish at the Sun Belt Championship her freshman season. Closing out the women will be freshmen Tanner Guest, Caroline Franklin and Sydney Singletary.

Among the Division I teams competing against the Trojans are Alabama A&M (women only), Alabama State, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, and Mercer. In total, there will be 19 teams with three teams solely running women.
