TROY, Alabama – Troy posted a .390 attack percentage en route to a dominating, 3-0 (25-11, 25-11, 25-13) victory over Southern on opening night in Trojan Arena.
Â
The Trojans' (1-0) attacking percentage was their highest single-game total since the 2014 season, led by a .667 from junior Savannah Moore. Troy was off to a slow start in set one, leading the Jaguars (0-2) 11-9 before Moore sparked a massive run with four kills and a block – Troy scored 12 of the next 13 points.
Â
Much like the first one, Troy took complete control of the second set with a huge run – jumping out to a 17-5 advantage.
Â
With two sets firmly in hand, Troy began the third set with a slim 6-3 lead when Cheyenne Hayes headed back to serve. Four service aces from the sophomore and seven total points later, the Trojans were able to run away with the set.
Â
Quotable – Troy head coach Josh Lauer
"It was really nice to get the first win under our belt. It was fun to see our kids come out and be focused. We get to enjoy this win for a short time. "Building the Empire" means that there is constant growth, so we'll go look at the film and see what we can do better. There are definitely more good things to come."
Â
Noteworthy
• Troy notched a .390 attacking percentage which is the highest single-game total since 2014. The Trojans twice passed the .400 mark that year, once against UNC Asheville and again versus Austin Peay.
Â
• Friday's season opener marked the first time since 2006 that the team kicked off its campaign at home. It was the first time since at least 2004 that the Trojans won the season opener at home.
Â
Up Next
The Trojans will wrap up the Troy Invitational tomorrow with matches against Southeast Missouri State (10 a.m.) and Southeastern Louisiana (4:30 p.m.). All home volleyball matches feature free admission.
