Foreign Tour 2018: Arrival
8/2/2018 10:48:00 PM | Basketball (M)
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – The Troy men's basketball team departed Atlanta, Ga., Thursday to begin its trip to Costa Rica to participate in the 2018 Foreign Tour from Aug. 2-8.
The Trojans landed in San Jose around 11:45 a.m. central standard time. Once in San Jose, the team went to eat lunch prior to heading to BN Arena for practice.
"This trip is going to be a great experience and it has already been so far," senior B.J. Miller said. "Getting to see this part of the world which is a place that a lot of people want to go is amazing. It's nice to see how people live in Central America."
The Trojans will face off against Laurentian University at 4 p.m. (CST) in BN Arena. The game will be played according to International Basketball Federation (FIBA) rules rather than the normal NCAA standards. The major differences are that the game is four 10-minute periods, the three-point line is 22 feet rather than 20 and the shot clock is 24 seconds and only resets to 14 seconds after offensive rebounds.
"Today was a terrific day," head coach Phil Cunningham said. "The travel was uneventful, we had a very spirited practice and the guys are ready to play some outside competition. We will play a really good college team from Canada and I am interested in seeing how we defend the way they play. They are one of those teams that spread out and shoot a lot of threes and play small ball, and we are a bigger team so it will be interesting to see how we handle the way they play. It's a wonderful opportunity to come to Costa Rica and we are excited about tomorrow."
