TROY, Alabama – Troy outfielder Joey Denison was named to the 2018 Collegiate Baseball All-American Second Team, the newspaper announced Thursday.
The Sun Belt Player of the Year led the team and the conference in batting average, doubles, RBI and several other batting categories this season. He set the school's single-season RBI record with 74 this season, which ranks third nationally.
His 91 hits rank 10th in the country and are the fourth-most by any player in school history; while his .387 batting average puts him in the top 20 of all Division I players.
Denison, a Troy-native, is the program's first All-American since Reid Long was selected to the freshman team in 2015 – the first upperclassman since 2013. He was named an all-conference first teamer last week and became the first player of the year since Adam Bryant in 2011.
The senior will lead the third-seeded Trojans into the NCAA Athens Regional starting Friday against second-seeded Duke; first pitch is set for 1 p.m. (CT).
