Hayes, Ogba Sweep Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Awards

TROY, Alabama – Jared Hayes has been named the Men's Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, while Precious Ogba was tabbed the Women's Freshman of the Year, the Sun Belt office announced Tuesday morning.

Hayes kicked off his freshman campaign with a win in the 200-meter dash at the Jaguar Classic. He then wrapped it all up with a silver-medal finish in both the 200-meter and the 400-meter at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships last weekend.

His counterpart Ogba brought home the gold in the 400-meter dash at the conference championships and finished fifth in the 200-meter. She was also a key member of Troy's record-setting 4x400-meter relay team that ran the fastest time in school history by nearly four seconds with a 3:40.54 at the meet.

The duo will represent Troy at the NCAA East Preliminary in Tampa, Fla., this weekend – Hayes in the 200-meter and Ogba in the 400-meter dash.
