TROY, Alabama – Incoming Troy freshman Anna Claire Little helped lead Auburn High School to its second-ever girls golf state championship as she tied for seventh place individually at the 7A AHSAA Championship. Auburn defeated Hoover by one stroke over the 36-hole event at the Shoals Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Little, who was named to the Alabama Golf Association Girls Second Team as a junior, carded three birdies in the opening round and played a relatively clean second round with 15 pars and just three bogeys. She finished with an 8-over 152 after rounds of 77 and 75.
Little won the 2017 AL-NW Florida PGA Junior Championship and was named the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour Female Player of the Year in 2017 after accumulating 8,590 tour points – 2,575 points ahead of the golfer in second place. She finished the 2017 season with 10 top-10 finishes in 16 tournaments and added four top-10 finishes in seven events in 2016.
Troy is coming off a second-place finish at the Sun Belt Conference Championship marking the fifth-straight season that the Trojans have finished in the top two in the league including three Sun Belt titles.
