Troy Finishes Regular Season with Weekend Sweep

TROY, Alabama- The Troy women's tennis team (8-10, 3-2 SBC) finished the regular season on a five-match win streak as it defeated Appalachian State 6-1 and Coastal Carolina 4-3 over the weekend in Atlanta, Ga.
The weekend began with a huge 6-1 victory over the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Friday.
The match started with a 6-2 win from Jiayuan Xue and Efriliya Herlina on doubles court two. Appalachian State tied the match with a 6-3 win of its own on court three, but Troy rallied to earn the doubles point as Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky delivered a tiebreaking 7-6 (7-2) win to give the Trojans the early advantage.
The momentum stayed on Troy's side of the court as freshman Pei Ju Hsieh earned the first win in singles play, 6-3, 6-1 on court six. Xue followed with a 7-5, 6-3 victory and team captain Ohta finished on top 6-2, 6-2 as Troy took a 4-0 lead, ultimately clinching the match.
Play continued as freshman Matea Mihaljevic defeated Rebecca Morse 6-2, 6-4. Nancy Karaky delivered an incredibly hard fought match on court four, taking the first set 7-6 (7-2), but Appalachian State rallied to come from behind taking the next two sets 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) to put the Mountaineers lone point on the board.
Herlina also battled in a three-set match, and came out on top, defeating Teodora Sevo 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) as Troy walked away with the 6-1 win improving to 7-10 on the year and 3-2 in conference play.
Following a day off, Troy competed in its last regular-season match of the year, finishing with a clutch 4-3 victory over Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers entered the match 15-6 overall after handing South Alabama it's first Sun Belt loss of the season. Five of the six singles matches went to three sets.
Coastal swept doubles play taking an early 1-0 lead onto the singles courts, and even picked up wins on courts one and four 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-3, respectively. However, the Trojans stormed back as Xue put the first point on the board for Troy after falling in the first set for the 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 come-from-behind victory.
From there on out, Troy delivered three straight wins. Mihaljevic came through with a 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 victory on court five and Herlina tied the match at 3-3 as she battled back down one set to defeat Rylie Cox 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.
All eyes turned to court six as Hsieh faced Jessie Mount. Hsieh won set one 6-3 but Mount evened things up in set two. With the match on the line, Hsieh came through for the Trojans winning set three 6-3 to clinch the match and finish the season on a high note as Troy moved to 4-2 in Sun Belt play.

Troy will look to continue its streak with a run in the Sun Belt Tournament, April 20-23 in Peachtree City, Ga. Seeding and bracket information will be announced at a later date.
