TROY, Alabama โ Playing its best golf of the year, the Troy women's golf team travels to Macon, Ga., for the Brickyard Collegiate in its final tune up of the spring before the Sun Belt Championships. Teams will play 18 holes Sunday through Tuesday at the Brickyard Golf Course.
ย
"We're up against a really good field this week," head coach Randy Keck said. "However, we want to see a good field the week before the conference tournament. I'm excited to see us play against this level of competition with the confidence that we're playing with. We're coming off a good week of practice and I'm looking forward to a good showing."
ย
Troy is fresh off a victory at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate earlier in the week. Bianca Lohbauer led the Trojans as she tied for seventh place after shooting 3-over in the 36-hole event, while Antonia Poate and Sarah Harrison shot 5-over to tie for 11th. Five of Troy's top eight rounds as a team this season have come in the last three tournaments.
ย
The 14-team field features nine teams ranked inside the top 100 in the latest Golfstat national rankings paced by No. 27 Vanderbilt and No. 34 Florida State.
ย
"We've really gained some confidence over the past month because we were able to pinpoint the weakness in our game and work towards correcting it," Keck said. "We are a very good ball striking team but we were not putting well. We spent a lot of time on our putting and it has made a world of difference."
ย
Harrison and Lohbauer are separated by just four shots over the course of 21 rounds this season as Harrison's 76.19 stroke average paces the Trojans followed closely by Lohbauer's 76.38 mark. Lohbauer has been extremely impressive during the spring with a 74.77 average over nine rounds heading into the weekend.
ย
Eva Fabricius-Bjerre tied for 26th in Troy's win at Mimosa Hills and is third overall this season for the Trojans with a 76.81 stroke average. Harrison, Lohbauer and Fabricius-Bjerre have been steady for Troy all season as the trio are tied for the team lead with 90.5 percent of their rounds counting towards the team card.
ย
Lindsey Harrison carries a 77.81 stroke average into the Brickyard, while Poate lowered her average to 79.33 with her strong finish at Mimosa Hills. Abby Parks will play her second straight tournament as an individual.
